Reading with Fairytales: Sleeping Beauty retells the traditional story of a king and queen who have a baby girl and invite everyone to visit her, include some fairies – all except one fairy who was unkind. The unkind fairy came anyway and put a curse on the princess, saying she would die aged 16 by touching a spindle. Although the king ordered for all the spindles to be destroyed, the curse came true and the princess and castle-people all fell into a deep sleep. One hundred years later, everyone wakes up and the princess meets a passing prince and they get married.
Reading with Fairytales: Sleeping Beauty helps to boost your child's reading skills by giving them an opportunity to hear the main story read aloud by a grown-up, to read a simple sentence together, and to interact with the illustration with Can You Spot? activities.
Other activities also include a retelling the story activity (an important skill for Key Stage 1), a picture quiz, a rhyming words task and a picture dictionary to spot and learn from.
