DESIGNER

As Designer, you will join a team of three in-house designers including the Creative Director, and will work closely with members of the Editorial Department. Your role will include coming up with new concepts, designing books within existing series, and reformatting and rejacketing older titles.

You will have:
• A thorough knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop (essential)
• Competence in Illustrator and Microsoft Office (not essential as training would be provided)
• A solid understanding of production processes along with the ability to set up and supply correct files for repro and print
• A degree or equivalent and design experience within children’s illustrated publishing
• The ability to research and respond to current trends and styles within children’s publishing and the wider world of art and design
• The ability to develop projects from initial ideas to final print-ready files, including presenting concepts, scamping up ideas and briefs, and using either pencil or iPad to create sketches from which artwork will be commissioned
• Strong typographic skills using age- and book- appropriate fonts
• Confidence working at a fast pace whilst maintaining quality and attention to detail
• A genuine passion for print and publishing, and a work ethic that reflects this
• An eye for detail and attention to quality
• Common sense and the ability to work under your own initiative
• Great communication skills and the ability to establish working relationships at all levels
• The ability to follow schedules, and work to tight deadlines under pressure

ARTWORKER/REPROGRAPHICS TECHNICIAN
You will join our team of three who prepare our files to print, alongside supplying files for reprints and foreign editions and managing all of our illustrations and photographs. You may be required to provide support, including technical support, to other departments.

You will have:
• A thorough knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat (essential)
• A background or education in graphic design/print (ideal)
• Competence in Illustrator and Microsoft Office (not essential as training would be provided)
• Knowledge of working with co-print files, text black, CMYK splits, spot colours, applying bleed, etc.
• Extensive experience with Mac computers
• Experience working with images and image files, and the pre-press processes that apply to them
• A genuine passion for print and publishing, and a work ethic that reflects this
• An eye for detail and attention to quality
• Common sense and the ability to work under your own initiative
• Great communication skills and the ability to establish working relationships at all levels
• The ability to follow schedules, and work to tight deadlines under pressure

SALES SUPPORT ASSISTANT
We are looking for a Sales Support Assistant to join our sales team. Own car and bags of enthusiasm are essential. This is a new position reporting to the UK Sales Director and would suit a well-organised person supporting all aspects of publishing sales.

The main tasks:
• Working to try to increase our online sales through our website and Amazon
• Doing follow-up with key customers
• Helping with product information for key customers
• Supporting other members of the sales team where needed
• Helping to organise bookfairs
• General sales and admin duties

You will have:
• A good understanding of Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• A willingness to learn new skills
• Enthusiasm and a positive attitude
• Willingness to help out where needed
• Great communication skills and the ability to establish working relationships at all levels
