Miles Kelly visit Linton Children’s Book Festival 2016

May 26, 2016

Miles Kelly visited Linton Children’s Book Festival on Sunday 22 May 2016 to take part in workshops with children on ‘How to design your own book front cover’.

Simon, a designer at Miles Kelly, and Katie, publicist, hosted two workshops in the afternoon that were very much enjoyed by the children (and adults!) who attended.

Simon and Katie gave a presentation about how important the design of a book cover is in encouraging children to want to find out more about it. Lots of children offered their ideas about what attracts them to their favourite books. Simon went on to discuss the interesting design process he went through for a new Miles Kelly series due to be published this summer – Super Search Adventure.

Then the real fun began! Children had the task of designing the front cover for their very own book. They had to come up with their own idea or adapt an existing story that they already like and think about how the cover would change. The children were able to plan and sketch out their ideas using a technique in the design world called ‘scamping’, before moving on to the main front cover. The children finished off their designs with notes about what colour, fonts, styles and effects they would like on their finished cover.

Look at some of the amazing covers we received….
