Amanda's Top Picks of 2021

Amanda's Top Picks of 2021

As you may know, I have a 2-year-old boy, a nearly 6-year-old boy, a 3-year-old niece and a 14-year-old nephew. So my gifting responsibilities span the age ranges! Here are my top picks of the year.

1. Convertibles

Convertibles are always going to get the top spot for me when I have two vehicle-mad boys! I brought Train and Police Car home the other week – new and improved with steering wheels. My goodness, they loved them!

2. Curious

My 5 year old is loving everything to do with space at the moment, after getting a book from the library. We have quite a few space-themed Curious Q&A books, so it's helping me A LOT. The cartoon-like illustrations are a breath of fresh air in a fact book, and the approach to the questions and special pages, such as Would You Rather...?, are really rather fun.

3. Woodland Tales

I love a picture book and read a handful every day (some begrudgingly, I admit). Miles Kelly's venture into original fiction is a triumph. Not only are the stories themselves lovely, they're factual too. Here, you read about the white-tailed deer's habitat and which other animals live there. Great stuff.

4. Lots to Spot Sticker Activity

The Lots to Spot series holds a special place in my heart because I helped to create the original idea. I'd had my first baby and found the first word books on the market a bit stuffy, samey and dull. So we came up with this visual treat – loads of detailed, characterful pictures, prompts and questions for what to spot (to help a parent's tired brain) and stickers to entertain when needed. The perfect combo in my opinion!

5. The Books

We meet another series I love because I helped to make it (I used to be a book editor). The design, photos and facts are the cream of the crop – we used to spend days and weeks finding the best that we could to make sure that kids would be enthralled and entertained by facts. I'm biased but I think we did an excellent job. They look ace.
