Another age group where I feel comfortable choosing 3 books that will keep them entertained. My son is nearly 6 and I've seen a big change in him since starting Year 1. He's reading everything and anything he can, and he has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge about the world. So here are 3 books that I would choose for him…
Space is a hot topic in our house at the moment. This weekend, we've made a planet picture for the ceiling and a rocket out of a bottle. And we get asked MANY questions and then told a lot of facts. Curious Q&A books really help because they steer the conversation, satisfy their curiosity and – most importantly – don't bore the adult to tears!

We've used all of the First books here – Dinosaur, Animal, Space and Body – at one time or another. First Animal Book helped during lockdown with projects set by the teacher, and First Body Book is useful to help us find the language to explain how the complex body systems work. The illustrations are great and the simple text is perfect for the age group.

My boys love a story before bedtime and when I road-tested some Miles Kelly picture books, the Unicorn books were popular – who doesn't love a bit of magic! They feel modern, inclusive and imaginative – the perfect mixture for kids to genuinely enjoy the stories. Really good stuff.
